NYSUT Alert: Urge your state reps to reject charter school proposal

Call the toll-free AFL-CIO action line today at 1-877-255-9417 to urge your state Senator and Assembly member to vote NO on expanding the charter school cap without meaningful reform (S.7678/A.10928). As proposed, this bill would increase the number of charter schools from 200 to 460 without providing meaningful charter school law reform that would bring accountability, equity and fairness. In addition, the current bill does not provide necessary protections against the abuse of power, fraud, misuse of public funds, or protection of parent and student rights.

NYSUT Executive Vice President Andy Pallotta said the Senate could vote on the plan as early as this evening, so there's no time to waste. The Assembly could also act soon, but nothing was on the calendar as this alert went out. By the time you read this, it might be the end of your workday, so check the NYSUT website at http://www.nysut.org/legislation_15108.htm for the latest information on the bill status.

TAKE ACTION BY PHONE
